First Technology Demonstration Mission with Momentus
Green propulsion for satellites is becoming a key technology for extending mission lifetimes while reducing environmental risks in space. Recently, SteamJet announced a launch service agreement with Momentus, a leading provider of in-space transportation services. As the result, this mission will mark SteamJet’s first technology demonstration of green propulsion for satellites, using CubeSat water thrusters on a Soyuz rocket to a Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO).
Together, SteamJet and Momentus aim to broaden the mission capabilities of small satellites. Specifically, the goal is to extend time in orbit and improve operational flexibility. In addition, the technology supports trajectory optimization, safe constellation operations, collision avoidance, and responsible de-orbiting.

Safe, Compact, and High-Performance Green Propulsion
SteamJet develops and produces water-based thrusters for SmallSats and CubeSats manufactured by SatRevolution. These thrusters use water or other low-pressure, non-toxic, and non-corrosive fluids as propellant. Thrust is generated through a low-power resistojet.
Compared to high-pressure cold gas systems, SteamJet’s green propulsion for satellites is safer to operate. It can be handled during launch-site operations and stored aboard the International Space Station. As a result, overall mission risk is significantly reduced.
SteamJet thrusters allow SmallSats and CubeSats to remain in space longer and perform precise orbital maneuvers. They support constellation operations, collision avoidance, and controlled de-orbiting. Moreover, their high thrust and low power consumption enable satellites to reach their final orbit faster and with less energy than electric propulsion systems.
